As the pandemic of COVID-19 has shown, the threat of infectious diseases is increasing all over the world due to climate change, environmental destruction, and the development of transportation networks and globalization in recent years, and countermeasures are required. In particular, it is necessary to have an experimental facility (BSL-4 facility) with advanced safety functions in order to safely handle pathogens that cause serious infectious diseases, such as hemorrhagic fevers, and to develop effective prevention and treatment methods. The research base for infectious diseases of Nagasaki University, established in 2017 with the aim of conducting research on infectious diseases with high mortality rates, has made a fresh start as a University Research Institute, the “National Research Center for the Control and Prevention of Infectious Diseases(CCPID)”, from April 2022. It has also been certified as a Joint Usage / Research Center for related researchers nationwide. At this center, we will safely develop and operate the BSL-4 facility, and promote infectious disease research and human resource development in collaboration with researchers nationwide. |

新型コロナウイルス感染症(COVID-19)のパンデミックが示すように、近年の気候変動や環境破壊、交通網の発達とグローバル化により、世界中で感染症の脅威が高まっており、その対策が求められています。中でも出血熱などの致死率が高い感染症を起こす病原体を安全に取り扱い、有効な予防法や治療法を開発するためには、高度な安全機能を備えた実験施設（BSL-4施設）が必要です。 致死率が高い感染症の研究を行うことを目的として、2017年に設置された長崎大学感染症共同研究拠点は、2022年4月より附置研究所「高度感染症研究センター」として新たに出発しました。また、全国の関連研究者の共同利用・共同研究拠点としても認定されました。本センターでは、BSL-4施設を安全に整備・運用し、全国の研究者と協力して、感染症研究と人材育成を推進します。 |
